The Isle of Wight is a small island in the south of England. It's 23 miles wide from east to west, and 131/4 miles high from north to south, giving a total area or 147 square miles. Although the island is relatively small around one million people spend their holidays on the Isle of Wight each year and as a small boy I did too. So why is the island so popular? Its simple. It has everything you need to have a great holiday -fantastic climate, scenic beauty and plenty of things to do.

This small island is blessed with an almost sub-tropical climate, and Sandown & Shanklin regularly top the British sunshine league. Ventnor has also been well known for its outstanding climate, a climate so good in fact that the Victorian's believed it had healing powers and The Royal National Hospital for tuberculosis was built there. A good climate has allowed the island to develop a rich and varied plant life and also a huge variety of wildlife including red squirrels, birds of prey, seals and dolphins. Along with beautiful weather the island provides its visitors with beautiful scenery to match in fact over 50 percent of the island is classified as an area of outstanding natural beauty. This makes it a popular walkers destination and the island provides a network of footpaths that stretch over 500 miles exploring cliffs, beaches, chines, hills and downs.http://www.lintasberita.com/mediabig/4eef10e87a7ff1c9074ce1688b18d3cc.jpg

cafes which frequent every village and town. Choosing accommodation on the island is a difficult choice as there are literally thousands of options available you. Ventnor, Shanklin and Sandown seem to be most popular and provide good weather and a perfect base from which to explore the island. Don't forget to book well in advance especially in the school summer holiday period as ferry prices onto the island are higher and accommodation almost impossible to find.
